Even though Tian Guan Ci fu started as a chinese novel,
english fan translations made it widely known across all the continents and now it is loved all around the world.
Now, as a result, the fans have been rewarded with many different adaptations of the novel,
including an official English release of the novel, a Manhua, a television drama and a donghua(animated series).
The Chinese versions of the novel are still the most loved version of the story, with foreigners striving to learn Chinese to read their favorite fairytale in its native language. It’s usually the danmei that introduces foreign fantasy readers into the genre, who later discover the authors other works, “Grandmaster of demonic cultivation” and “Scum villain’s self-saving system”, along with other famous danmei authors such as Meatbun with her works “YuWu” and “The white husky and his white cat Shizun”
The first season of the Donghua , written by Chunri Youling and directed by Li Haoling,
was released back in autumn 2020 by Bili Bili and Funimation and received many positive reviews.
It has a total of 11 episodes covering chapters 1 through 32 and an extra episode released a few weeks after the end of the series.
The two main characters, Xie Lian and Hua Cheng,
are voiced by Jiang Guangtao and Ma Zhengyang respectively. The production of a second season was confirmed by Bili Bili in January 2021,
though it has yet to be released.
Every single OST of the series was composed by Yang Bingyin, which amound to 6 main songs and 29 background tracks out of which the most memorable are Red Supreme and No Separation
TGCF’s manhua is illustrated by STARember and a new chapter is published weekly on Bilibili. In April 2021 an official English translation became available on Bilibili comics.
It was first announced on 15th of August 2019, and the prologue later debuted on 19th of October 2019. Seven volumes have been completed so far. The first volume was reworked with additional content due to the portrayed events not being clear enough for people who didn't read the novel. After volume four finished, scenes from earlier chapters were redrawn to fit the current style.
On December 9 2020 it was announced that the beloved series Tian Guan Ci Fu would get a live action adaptation, renamed as “Eternal Faith”. It’s directed by Ren Haitao, produced by Jiang Luyan and Zhai Xiaowen and Zhang Linghe are starring as Xie Lian and Hua Cheng. The filming started back in July 2021, and has finished in January 2022. Unfortunately, though, due to censory issues, we have yet to be informed about the state of the project.
