This season's main character is Eva, a freshman in high school. Eva has lost most of the friends she had in earlier years due to something that happened in the year prior. So, we have a freshman in high school with no friends... But not for long. She and some other girls get to be on the same Russ Bus and thus... The journey begins.
This season I think, does what every first season of a show oughts to do. It introduces interesting and flawed characters, it forms questions to the viewer that slowly get answered throughout the show, it creates conflict and most importantly, when dealing with a show where each season focuses on a specific character, it has character development.
And to expend a bit on what I said before, I will talk about Eva for a bit. Eva is a very confused, self-conscious teen that at the beginning has absolutely no friends and doesn't know what to do with herself honestly. But while the episodes progress, that changes. Eva changes as a person not only because she finds friends and has new experiences but also because she makes both good and bad decisions. She is not a perfect character and the show doesn't let that slide easily; we get reminded of that all the time. But when comparing how Eva was in the beginning of the season and the end of it, she has learned from her mistakes and realized where she was on the wrong. What does the show want to accomplish by doing that, though? Well, in my opinion, it wants to make the viewers understand that the most important thing is not to be perfect but to be able to learn from the things that you handled "imperfectly" and I frankly ADORE THAT!!!
