Isak Valtersen

Season 3

Season 3 is a literal masterpiece. I know that, that is literally everyone's favourite season of Skam but like... It's popular for a reason. So, this season we follow Isak, who is one of my favourite favourite characters as well. He is 17 years old, he is in the same class as Eva and Noora and he is friends with them and the other girls but he always hangs out with his besties Jonas, Magnus and Mahdi. In this season we see isak realize and accept his sexual orientation, fall in love and get hurt but also hurt others too. Season 3 also made skam a worldwide phenomen, mostly because people finally got the representation they deserved.

This season is the most romantic of them all. And sure, the other ones have their share of romantic moments (yes I am looking at you season 2 episode 3 time stamp 27:31), this season has the most romantic moments and gestures all in all so it takes the crown. Also, this season, more noticeably than the other 2 seasons I believe, has a core topic. That topic in this case is sexuality. We see Isak struggling with internalised homophobia and coming to terms with who he likes, we see him come out to people and in general figure out everything. And it's nice because, this season the viewers see Isak get accepted, be his authentic self without trying to be someone he is not and go through some things as well, and I feel like whoever watches this season, no matter their sexuality, can understand how beautiful it is to be accepted by people for exactly who you are. Another thing that I really like about this season, is that we finally get to see more of the guys of the show and also their friendship which we haven't really seen until now, and I think it is very interesting. Lastly, this is emotional... This season is so sweet and heartwarming but also sad at moments, and some times you might need some tissues.

This story also talks a bit about mental illness and I am not going to say more about it like which character has one etc. but it does touch on that topic. And this story is also not only about being accepted but also accepting and loving people no matter what.

Isak's Character

Isak is one of my favourite characters on this show and I love him so so much it's insane. He is a very funny, bubbly, akward character and I always love those kind of characters (don't know why). First of all, I just want to talk about how Isak has a beautiful character development. I know I have said this for everyone so far but... Isak grows so much throughout this season. As I said before, this season deals with something personal so of course we get to see a lot of the character and his emotions, and his development by the end of it. Another thing that I like, is that isak feels all of his emotions very deeply and with the way the show is directed we understand all of them. From the happiness to love to sadness to pain. I also really like the fact that, Isak has some really deep conversations with people in this season regarding many many things and it just feels like after and in this season, through learning, Isak becomes a lot wiser.

Additionally, It's very nice that his friends are actual friends, they don't only love him a lot but they also tell him off when he is acting stupidly which is what true friendship is also about. Lastly, I just want to talk about the fact that, all the actors in this show are extremely good like the acting is top tier... BUT the fact that Tarjei (the actor who plays Isak) was only 17 years old when filming season 3 and he did such an amazing job acting and portraying the character... Just wow.

(Honestly, I am just happy to see Isak happy)
